Like water for oil

Why David Lynch loves Poland Well, at least GayProf is adding his two cents. I guess the rest of you are just pee-shy or something.

So here's my style of news:

Click
here to hear David Lynch talk about his love for Poland and Polish factories. (tiny article)
While we're on the subject, I did rent the extended edition of Dune and it is by and large a great compendium to the original. However, there is the glaring omission of
Virginia Madsen's voice over. I mean, "Dune. Arrakis. Desert Planet," is like the catchphrase or something of the film and it never surfaces in this version. We do get to see more of Capt. Picard which is nice especially because Gurney is such an integral character in the book. Speaking of the book, has anyone besides me read it? Frank Herbert is like prescient (or maybe his themes are just so wholly universal) cuz there is a lot of relevance to world politics today contained in those pages. Which brings me back to Lynch--don't you just love it how water looks like oil in the movie? I think its brilliant. The Toto score leaves a little to be desired--but the rockin' guitars instead of John Williams-esque orchestration or Vangelis-esque synths is where its at.

Ok. Enough Dune. I can tell you're bored.

So let's talk comic books. Ah comic books. You were my first love. My subscriptions to
Power Pack, The Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil, New Mutants, X-Factor and X-Men came wrapped in plastic and folded in the mail. They were my reading copies and they signaled that I could go to the comic book store and buy a copy (sans UPC) that would go straight into mylar.
Well, my youth is being resurrected in the form of The Dark Phoenix Saga being re-released in TPB--just in time for X3.
And equally as exciting, Joss Whedon and John Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men is coming out in hard cover. First 12 issues. Dude, I think I just peed myself. (

I know this might sound strange--but I've always sort of equated my queerness with superheroes. I guess it was having a feeling that I was different, and when I was in the closet--or didn't even really understand my sexuality--knowing that I presented myself differently than how I felt.
Maybe the writers and illustrators were helping me along, though. Anyhoo . . .

On to less important news . . .

I really like the cover art for the new . . . (gasp!) Cream album.

What can I say, I think its kinda rad.

Even more peculiar--I like the track listing . . .

Know what's creepy about this? My recent (lame-ass) mixes have a lot of these artists/tracks. I think the world might be ending soon.

Last bit o' news:
Sexy or scary, you decide.
Will Oldham (friends with cool people like Harmony Korine, the band Tortoise and other art-type elites) stars in Old Boy executive produced by Todd Haynes and directed by Kelly Reichardt. The movie features a soundtrack by Yo La Tengo and is about the end of a friendship. Aww, isn't it sad when friendships end? It recently premiered at Sundance. (article)
Time to queue up, y'all!!! Put Blood of a Poet on your Netflix queue cuz I just can't pass up the opportunity to explore it for the next cinema outing.
That's it. Have a wonderful weekend.
